Official Batch #1!

After what seems like forever waiting for my supplies to come, they finally arrived! Some of it wasn’t very exciting (it’s just hard to get too excited about castor oil), but a lot of it was. I think for me the best part was the new mold, which holds five pounds of soap and will give me about 15 bars. That’s exciting stuff. I’ve also got some great colors and smells. So it was time to make my very first official batch!

Official Soap

I’ve been making soap for a while now, and while sometimes it was to give to friends or family, I’ve never made it for sale before. I was prepared today to make my biggest batch ever, but checking my notes I discovered that it wasn’t, actually. That was a batch of Scrubby Spearmint I made several Christmases ago, which was just a little bigger than this one.

But I made my first official batch of soap today! Since I was using a new mold and I wasn’t really sure how everything was going to go, I elected to make my Pure Soap first. It’s fragrance- and color-free for those with sensitivities, so there was nothing to add; it was just a simple pour. It went as smooth as silk; the larger batch worked just as well as the smaller ones do. Despite its simplicity, I did let it set up a little and then worked a simple texture swirl into the top. I love the way it turned out!

My first official Cherrystone batch!

I’m super excited now and I can’t wait to make my next batch! Unfortunately, I have to, because I have to wait for my mold to be available. I hope that’s tomorrow; if it is, I think I’ll make the scrubby spearmint. Once I have my classic set of soaps made, I can start making this simple site into a store.
